Registration period – about 2-5 years from the application filing date.

Confirmation document – Certificate.

Term of validity – 20 years from the application filing date. Patent for invention can be extended for additional 5 years if the patent object is a medicinal product, pesticide or agrochemical, and when the product use requires permission according to the procedure established by law.

What can be protected: product (device, substance, microorganism strain, plant and animal cell culture, etc.); method (process of affecting material object with material resources), including use of the product or method for the specific purpose (for example, for treating diseases).

Utility model

Registration period – about 12-24 months from the application filing date.

Confirmation document – Certificate.

Term of validity – 8 years from the application filing date.

5. Power of Attorney (no legalization or notarization required) must be submitted within 2 months from the date of filing.
6. Certified copy of the priority application (if priority is claimed) must be submitted within 16 months from the date of filing.

Validity period – 5 years from the date of the application filing, with a possible extension for 1-5 five-year terms.

What can be protected as an industrial design: the appearance of the whole or part of a product resulting from the properties of the product itself, including lines, contours, colors, shape, texture and/or material or finish of the product.

Official language – application materials are submitted in Georgian and all prosecution is conducted in Georgian.

3. A set of photographs showing the product, a mock-up or a drawing that gives a complete detailed understanding of the appearance of the product, a drawing of the general appearance of the product, an ergonomic diagram, a assembly map, etc.

4. Power of attorney for a representative in intellectual property (does not require legalization or notarization).

5. Priority claim with reference to the date of the previous application filing, the number of the previous application and the name of the country or institution where it was filed, as well as a certified copy of the previous application issued by the institution that received it (if priority is claimed).
